This last Monday was Memorial Day. I am so proud to be part of a country that pauses to remember our fallen heroes. A hero is defined as “one who shows great courage.” I stood among several heroes recently at our Veteran pinning ceremony at Assisted Living Facilities in our community. Hoffmann Hospice has a program call We Honor Veterans, where we provide specialized care based on their Veteran needs. One of the things we can offer our patients that are Veterans is support from a specially trained Veteran to Veteran Volunteer. I have observed over the years the kind of brotherhood these Veterans share. It’s deep …only they truly understand each other.
At our pinning ceremony each Veteran is thanked for their service, pinned with a special pin, and saluted by a Hoffmann Hospice Veteran to Veteran Volunteer. We also invite fellow Veteran’s from our community partners to share in this special ceremony. Each spouse of a Veteran is honored during this ceremony, whether their husband is present or has passed, because they are heroes too. Lots of emotion, smiles and tears, all of which we are free to show because of these heroes! God bless everyone that has served our country, we pause to remember and salute you.
